Translation notes

Small choices shape a clear translation

Equalang keeps the information that makes a sentence useful, not just understandable.

Agglutination and Suffix Chaining

Turkish adds strings of suffixes to roots to express meaning that English conveys through separate words.

Evlerinizden ayrılmayın lütfen.

Please do not leave your houses.

Verb-Final Sentence Structure

Turkish places verbs at the end of clauses, requiring restructuring from standard English SVO order.

We signed the agreement yesterday afternoon.

Anlaşmayı dün öğleden sonra imzaladık.

Evidentiality and Hearsay Past

Turkish distinguishes witnessed events from hearsay with the "-miş" suffix, which English conveys lexically.

Toplantı iptal edilmiş.

Apparently, the meeting was canceled.

Gender-Neutral Pronouns

Turkish uses the pronoun "o" for third person, requiring context to choose he, she, or it in English.

O yeni bir araba aldı.

She bought a new car.

Common questions

Before you translate

How does Equalang choose between formal and informal address when translating from English to Turkish?

Equalang uses AI to evaluate context and tone, selecting either the polite "siz" or the informal "sen" as appropriate. Since translations are powered by AI, important texts should always be reviewed by a person.

Can Equalang translate Turkish text from photos taken on a trip?

Yes, Equalang can translate text from photos in either direction. For live conversations while traveling, you can also use its speech feature for face-to-face listening and speaking.

How well is formatting preserved, and what are the limitations?

Formatting is kept as far as possible: PDF translations keep columns, headers and footers, captions, and paragraph levels, bold text stays bold, links in the table of contents and cross-references still work, and sentences split across page breaks are rejoined before translating; Word, PowerPoint, and EPUB files keep their formatting as far as possible, and Excel numbers and formulas are left as they are. Font sizes and line breaks may adjust when translation length changes, and complex layouts, scanned PDFs, heavy watermarks, or language-dependent Excel text formulas should still be checked against the original in the side-by-side workspace.

How is text translation billed, and can I try it out first?

New accounts receive 200 credits to try it out, and purchased credits never expire and are shared across the website and extensions (the smallest pack is $10 for 10,000 credits). Text translation is billed by length at 10 credits per 1,000 tokens, where 1,000 tokens is roughly 750 English words or 1,000 Chinese, Japanese, Korean, Thai, or Hindi characters.

How is my privacy protected and how long are uploaded files kept?

Uploaded files and translated results are kept for 14 days so you can view and download them, then removed from access, and you can request deletion of your submitted content and account data at any time. Equalang does not sell personal data or use your submitted or translated content to train AI models.
