Document translation
Right-click a PDF, Word, PowerPoint or Excel attachment to translate it. The translation keeps the layout and is attached to the original item; a PDF can also come back as a bilingual edition.
Selection translation
Select text in the reader and the translation appears under Zotero's color buttons; select a word and you also get its meanings and examples.

In Zotero, choose Tools → Plugins.

Click the gear at the top right, choose Install Plugin From File…, and pick the file you downloaded.
Sign in to Equalang
EqualangA welcome window opens once it is installed. Click Sign In or Register and finish signing in in your browser. New accounts get 200 free credits.
From then on the plugin updates with Zotero; you can also check for updates in the gear menu under Tools → Plugins.
Which versions of Zotero and which systems does it work with?
Zotero 7, 8, 9 and 10, on Windows and macOS.
How is it charged?
It uses the same credit balance as the website, at the website's prices. Before a document is translated you see the credits it is expected to take and your balance, and a cancelled task costs nothing. New accounts get 200 free credits.
Where do the translated files go?
A translated file is attached to the original item and syncs with Zotero; in the settings you can save it to a folder on your computer instead and link it to the item (My Library only).
Are my files uploaded?
Translating a document uploads the file to Equalang, where it is handled under the privacy policy; translating a selection sends only the selected text.
What does removing it leave behind?
Remove it under Tools → Plugins, and the plugin's own data goes with it.
