Translation notes

Small choices shape a clear translation

Equalang keeps the information that makes a sentence useful, not just understandable.

Gender and Adjective Agreement

Spanish assigns gender to all nouns, so adjectives and articles must agree in gender and number.

The new red car is very fast.

El coche rojo nuevo es muy rápido.

Subject Pronoun Omission

Spanish verb endings indicate the person, making subject pronouns unnecessary unless used for emphasis.

Trabajo en una empresa tecnológica.

I work at a tech company.

Distinction Between Ser and Estar

English uses to be for both states and traits, while Spanish distinguishes between permanent and temporary.

She is quiet today, but she is lively.

Hoy está callada, pero es alegre.

Use of the Subjunctive

Spanish requires subjunctive verbs after wishes, whereas English typically uses an infinitive structure.

Quiero que vengas a la reunión.

I want you to come to the meeting.

Common questions

Before you translate

How do I ensure the translation uses formal or informal Spanish?

Spanish clearly distinguishes between tú and usted depending on audience and context. AI determines the tone from surrounding text, but you should review important documents to verify the address matches your needs.

Can I translate Spanish web pages and video subtitles while browsing?

Yes, you can use the browser extension to translate web pages and video subtitles, viewing the original alongside the translation. For live speech, face-to-face and listening modes are also supported.

How well is formatting preserved, and what are the limitations?

Formatting is kept as far as possible: PDF translations keep columns, headers and footers, captions, and paragraph levels, bold text stays bold, links in the table of contents and cross-references still work, and sentences split across page breaks are rejoined before translating; Word, PowerPoint, and EPUB files keep their formatting as far as possible, and Excel numbers and formulas are left as they are. Font sizes and line breaks may adjust when translation length changes, and complex layouts, scanned PDFs, heavy watermarks, or language-dependent Excel text formulas should still be checked against the original in the side-by-side workspace.

How is text translation billed, and can I try it out first?

New accounts receive 200 credits to try it out, and purchased credits never expire and are shared across the website and extensions (the smallest pack is $10 for 10,000 credits). Text translation is billed by length at 10 credits per 1,000 tokens, where 1,000 tokens is roughly 750 English words or 1,000 Chinese, Japanese, Korean, Thai, or Hindi characters.

How is my privacy protected and how long are uploaded files kept?

Uploaded files and translated results are kept for 14 days so you can view and download them, then removed from access, and you can request deletion of your submitted content and account data at any time. Equalang does not sell personal data or use your submitted or translated content to train AI models.
