Translation notes

Small choices shape a clear translation

Equalang keeps the information that makes a sentence useful, not just understandable.

Verbal Aspect Distinction

Russian pairs verbs by aspect to distinguish ongoing actions from completed results.

He wrote emails all afternoon and finished them.

Он писал письма весь день и закончил их.

Nuanced Verbs of Motion

Russian uses distinct verbs for traveling on foot versus by vehicle, and for one-way versus repeated trips.

Мы каждое лето ездим на море.

We go to the sea every summer.

Information Flow Word Order

Russian moves new information to the end of the clause, while English keeps fixed subject-verb order.

A package arrived yesterday.

Вчера пришла посылка.

Noun Agreement with Numerals

Russian numerals require specific genitive cases and endings depending on the last digit.

Осталось два свободных дня.

There are two free days left.

Common questions

Before you translate

How does the translator manage formal and informal address in Russian?

Russian distinguishes between polite вы and familiar ты. The AI infers tone from your text's context, but you should review important or official communications before sending them.

Can I translate entire documents or web pages between English and Russian?

Equalang translates PDF, Word, PowerPoint, Excel, EPUB, HTML, and TXT files while preserving their formatting as far as possible. Through the browser extension, you can also view translated web pages and video subtitles beside the original.

How well is formatting preserved, and what are the limitations?

Formatting is kept as far as possible: PDF translations keep columns, headers and footers, captions, and paragraph levels, bold text stays bold, links in the table of contents and cross-references still work, and sentences split across page breaks are rejoined before translating; Word, PowerPoint, and EPUB files keep their formatting as far as possible, and Excel numbers and formulas are left as they are. Font sizes and line breaks may adjust when translation length changes, and complex layouts, scanned PDFs, heavy watermarks, or language-dependent Excel text formulas should still be checked against the original in the side-by-side workspace.

How is text translation billed, and can I try it out first?

New accounts receive 200 credits to try it out, and purchased credits never expire and are shared across the website and extensions (the smallest pack is $10 for 10,000 credits). Text translation is billed by length at 10 credits per 1,000 tokens, where 1,000 tokens is roughly 750 English words or 1,000 Chinese, Japanese, Korean, Thai, or Hindi characters.

How is my privacy protected and how long are uploaded files kept?

Uploaded files and translated results are kept for 14 days so you can view and download them, then removed from access, and you can request deletion of your submitted content and account data at any time. Equalang does not sell personal data or use your submitted or translated content to train AI models.
