Translation notes

Small choices shape a clear translation

Equalang keeps the information that makes a sentence useful, not just understandable.

Preposition Article Contractions

Portuguese mandatory contractions combine prepositions and articles, creating forms like do, na, and à.

We went to the beach in the morning.

Nós fomos à praia de manhã.

Personal Infinitive Forms

Portuguese features an inflected personal infinitive that clarifies the subject without a full clause.

É importante vocês lerem o relatório.

It is important for you to read the report.

Future Subjunctive Nuances

Portuguese uses the future subjunctive for hypothetical future events, where English relies on present tense.

If you have questions tomorrow, call me.

Se você tiver dúvidas amanhã, me ligue.

Clitic Pronoun Placement

Brazilian Portuguese naturally places clitic pronouns before verbs in daily and business communication.

Ele me explicou o processo detalhadamente.

He explained the process to me in detail.

Common questions

Before you translate

Does Equalang support Brazilian Portuguese when translating to and from English?

Yes, Equalang is tuned for Brazilian Portuguese vocabulary, natural phrasing, and everyday usage in both directions. Since translations are generated by AI, you should have a person review important texts.

Can Equalang translate live conversations between English and Portuguese speakers?

Yes, Equalang supports live speech translation for listening and face-to-face interactions. Because spoken words can occasionally be misheard in noisy environments, you should have a person confirm crucial details.

How well is formatting preserved, and what are the limitations?

Formatting is kept as far as possible: PDF translations keep columns, headers and footers, captions, and paragraph levels, bold text stays bold, links in the table of contents and cross-references still work, and sentences split across page breaks are rejoined before translating; Word, PowerPoint, and EPUB files keep their formatting as far as possible, and Excel numbers and formulas are left as they are. Font sizes and line breaks may adjust when translation length changes, and complex layouts, scanned PDFs, heavy watermarks, or language-dependent Excel text formulas should still be checked against the original in the side-by-side workspace.

How is text translation billed, and can I try it out first?

New accounts receive 200 credits to try it out, and purchased credits never expire and are shared across the website and extensions (the smallest pack is $10 for 10,000 credits). Text translation is billed by length at 10 credits per 1,000 tokens, where 1,000 tokens is roughly 750 English words or 1,000 Chinese, Japanese, Korean, Thai, or Hindi characters.

How is my privacy protected and how long are uploaded files kept?

Uploaded files and translated results are kept for 14 days so you can view and download them, then removed from access, and you can request deletion of your submitted content and account data at any time. Equalang does not sell personal data or use your submitted or translated content to train AI models.
