Translation notes

Small choices shape a clear translation

Equalang keeps the information that makes a sentence useful, not just understandable.

Compound Noun Formation

German combines separate English words into single compound nouns, requiring correct compounding rules.

Our team needs a project management tool.

Unser Team braucht ein Projektmanagementwerkzeug.

Subordinate Clause Word Order

German subordinate clauses place the conjugated verb at the very end, unlike English SVO word order.

Ich weiß, dass er den Bericht gestern gelesen hat.

I know that he read the report yesterday.

Grammatical Case Distinctions

German signals grammatical roles through four distinct cases, altering articles, pronouns, and endings.

I sent the director the final contract.

Ich habe dem Direktor den Vertrag geschickt.

Formal Address with Sie

German makes a strict distinction between polite Sie and casual du, which must match the text's context.

Können Sie mir bitte die Unterlagen senden?

Could you please send me the documents?

Common questions

Before you translate

How does Equalang translate specialized technical terminology between English and German?

Equalang uses AI to recognize industry context and select the appropriate technical term in either language. Because specialized vocabulary requires exact precision, you should have important texts checked by a person.

Can I use Equalang to translate German web pages and video subtitles into English?

Yes, the Equalang browser extension translates web pages and video subtitles directly, displaying the original beside the translation. For critical information, you should still have a person verify the AI output.

How well is formatting preserved, and what are the limitations?

Formatting is kept as far as possible: PDF translations keep columns, headers and footers, captions, and paragraph levels, bold text stays bold, links in the table of contents and cross-references still work, and sentences split across page breaks are rejoined before translating; Word, PowerPoint, and EPUB files keep their formatting as far as possible, and Excel numbers and formulas are left as they are. Font sizes and line breaks may adjust when translation length changes, and complex layouts, scanned PDFs, heavy watermarks, or language-dependent Excel text formulas should still be checked against the original in the side-by-side workspace.

How is text translation billed, and can I try it out first?

New accounts receive 200 credits to try it out, and purchased credits never expire and are shared across the website and extensions (the smallest pack is $10 for 10,000 credits). Text translation is billed by length at 10 credits per 1,000 tokens, where 1,000 tokens is roughly 750 English words or 1,000 Chinese, Japanese, Korean, Thai, or Hindi characters.

How is my privacy protected and how long are uploaded files kept?

Uploaded files and translated results are kept for 14 days so you can view and download them, then removed from access, and you can request deletion of your submitted content and account data at any time. Equalang does not sell personal data or use your submitted or translated content to train AI models.
