Listening to a lecture in a foreign language can be exhausting. You might understand most of it, but the moment you get stuck on an unfamiliar word, the instructor moves on to the next slide.
Imagine having real-time bilingual subtitles scrolling in front of you. A quick glance could help you instantly get back on track. Equalang's Live Listening feature provides exactly this kind of support directly in your browser.
Open Directly in Your Browser
Equalang Live Listening doesn't require any software installation. Just bring your phone, tablet, or laptop to class.
To get started, log in to the Equalang Live Listening page and set up three things:
- Select what They speak (for example, Spanish).
- Choose what I read / hear in your language (for example, English).
- Select the Standard mode.
Click to start and allow your browser to access the microphone. Keep in mind that accuracy depends on audio quality, so sitting closer to the speaker in a large classroom will help capture the sound better.

Read Along and Stay on Track
As the instructor talks, Equalang displays the original text and its translation segment by segment. You can adjust the reading modes on the fly. For example, "Both · Quick" displays English in a larger font and the original language in a smaller font, allowing you to focus on the meaning.
Here is an example of the history record saved in the web page from a Spanish short speech demo:

The interface also includes an option to read translations aloud, though reading silently is usually the least disruptive method in a live classroom.
Export a Bilingual Transcript
When the class is over, click to stop listening and download a bilingual transcript with timestamps.
[001] Speaker 1 · 00:29 · es → en Cuando aprendemos algo Nuevo, a menudo leemos la misma página 1 y otra vez. When we learn something new, we often read the same page over and over again. [002] Speaker 1 · 00:35 · es → en Pero puedes intentar 1 enfoque diferente, ¡simplemente ponte a prueba! But you can try a different approach—just test yourself!
While this exported text won't replace your active listening and personal notes, it serves as a great reference. You no longer have to panic over missing a specific term during the lecture.
Next time you attend a class in another language, give it a try and enjoy a smoother learning experience.
